Snowflakes

As a follow up to a post from December, we finally got around to making our snowflake cookies made out of wonton wrappers.  Hannah proved to be quite able to make beautiful cookies.

The Little Gym Mid Year Showcase

Hannah had a karate class this semester. It involved learning various kicks, punches, as well as tai chi and other gymnatics skills in each class. She LOVED the class and although she misses Mr. Steven who was her instructor when she first began, she loved Mr. Bradley too. Mr. Bradley was sad to hear that Hannah was going back to dance class the next semester, because she did really well with karate.

Alyssa had a blast at her first semester of dance and gymnastics. She has proved to be a quick learner who does a great job following directions.

Hannah's 6th Birthday

Every year on their birthday, we take this picture.  The bear was Ryan's and he faithfully helps us document how much the girls grow... and six years later... SIX years??? How grown up she looks now!

Hannah had a month long of celebration.  First we went to Mix 'N Munch on her birthday with Gramma, Grampop, Elle, Josh, Nate, Miss Allison, Mommy and Alyssa.  We went in style (and in a light rain), taking the Orange line train to the Mission Street station.

That night we went to Claim Jumper again with Gramma and Grampop, Mommy, Alyssa and also Daddy who was able to come home from work a little bit early.  Hannah enjoyed building her own sundae, a nice follow up to the build your own cereal treat at Mix 'N Munch.

Next it was onto her Rapunzel themed party on Saturday.  Hannah helped decide the activities and braided the yarn for the pin the hair on Rapunzel game, working on it earlier during the week. She also helped bake and frost the cupcakes.  (Daddy did an amazing job frosting the four layer lantern cake!)  The kids built towers and played "Where's Pasquel?" the highlight of the party.

Finally, after the Birthday Tea for Gramma, Auntie Jen and Miss Britt, we celebrated with the family over a delicious dinner of ravioli.  Baby Sammy and her parents joined us and Sammy even helped open presents.

Ryan's Ravioli

Ryan and his sous chef, Brittany, made very yummy ravioli for Hannah's final birthday celebration. There were two kinds... smoked tuna and cheese and spinach... and they were well received by all!

Tortilla Faces

I was the leader for Children's Church this Sunday.  At first, Hannah thought she was as she began directing the group without at all knowing what I had in mind for the lesson and activities.  Hannah is quite a leader and I will have to learn  how to encourage that better.  Once we established who was in charge, we had a great time.  We learned Psalm 139:14, "I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."  Hen we made self portraits with Tortillas, cream cheese, Chinese noodles and raisins.  It was a BIG hit!

Love Notes

Alyssa's notes to Mommy and Daddy
Awhile back I wrote about a little 6 year old girl who knew she was going to die.  She left notes all around the house that her family would find after her death.  I hope that God doesn't have it in His plans to have my girls die any time soon, but if they did, we already have enough little reminders from them of not only how much they love us, but how much they love each other.

Red and Green Make Brown

As we were driving home from the park this afternoon, the girls were trying to sing "Deck the Halls" together.  They were having trouble starting at the same time at first, but then they figured it out.  I was happily listening to them cooperate and sing together.  Then Hannah said to Alyssa, "You are red and I am green and we make brown!"

Why do people always laugh at me?

We were returning books to the library one day.   Alyssa was cute as always, engaging the librarian in conversation.  As people usually do when interacting with my girls, the librarian couldn't help from laughing...

As we left the library, Alyssa turns to me and asks, "Why are people always laughing at me?"  Ahh... as my more tenderhearted child, she was questioning the intentions of the people she interacts with.  Quickly God gave me the words, "It's because you are so sweet and you make their hearts happy."  That really meant something to her... it made sense.

This week, as Alyssa was getting her hair cut, she was chattering away with the stylist, a friend of ours from church.  I heard her telling Silvana,"People laugh at me because I make their heart happy."  I pray that she never doubts those words.  She does make people's hearts happy...

Alyssa wants to be like Rapunzel

Alyssa after her hair cut... she frequently says that she wants her hair to be straight, so we had it blow dried this way... we didn't take a bath so she could have her hair this way as long as possible... but it didn't even last through the night!

Super Heroes...

Hannah doesn't have much contact with Super Heroes so it was interesting to see her make this birthday card for Eric who is a super super hero fan...

Moon Over Arcadia

I reminded the girls of the full moon as we were finishing up our dinner.  Hannah immediately ran to get her trusted journal (which she keeps in her pencil box) and began to draw it.

Weeding Garden Calms Beast

Hannah was having a rough afternoon...  a really rough afternoon.  We had spent the morning with our church doing a work day at a local school.  When we came home, she was in need of a nap... we all were, but for Hannah, those haven't happened since she was 2 1/2.  After getting past a few meltdowns, Ryan found Hannah busy pulling weeds.  She was the most pleasant she had been all day.

Hannah Journals the Sunsets

Sunrises and sunsets are her main focus when it comes to her journal.  Mommy brought her out to the magnificent sunrise the other morning, firey orange.  She went out and basked in its beauty.  Then there was this sunset Thursday night.  Hannah was roller skating and just before coming in for dinner, she was compelled to find her journal.  Here are a few of her entries:

Ragyoulare Morning... 6 Day OF The week 2011... Berrds Twetting... Iv Groing Hawsis sining (shining) ... 8:04 (There is a picture of the sun off the the right of our garage)

Sunset (underneath picture of a blue sky with orange-red along the horizon)... 545 IS MY GYEES

And my favorite:

SunSeet 515... GOD Pant Sky... Nigttim Skarlit EnDeng... The Reel EnDen Is Blo... And yello

(Side note... I love how she still writes phonetically... even though she is learning how to write words correctly, I leave her to do her journal as she wishes... and I'm working on getting her to write the full date along with her entries.)

Three Kings Party

We made crowns, snag songs and read Tomi de Paola's, The Story of the Three Kings, before feasting on roasted chicken, hummus, pita bread, dried fruit, cous cous and veggies.  Now that the Twelve Days of Christmas are over, the tree can finally come down!

The Recipe for a Home Ballet

Start with a little classical music... any flavor.  Add a crown, tutu and ballet slippers and dance as you feel led... it's quite beautiful.

Happy New Year!

Last night we went to a Pot Luck at church.  (why is it called that by the way...) After eating, someone is posted as the look out to watch for the floats that go by on Live Oak Avenue on their way from Azusa to the parade route in Pasadena. Once they are spotted, we all head out to watch them go by.

On New Year's Eve, we are home and in bed before midnight, but can hear fireworks as the new year begins.

This morning, we watched the Rose Parade. And as we do every year, we head outside to watch the skies for the B52 bomber that starts off the parade. It's fun to see it go from the TV to our house. Then we watch the rest of the parade to see if we can spot the floats we saw the night before.

We pray for a blessed new year for all!
